DJI MASTERS

YANN ARTHUS BERTRAND

TRIP to CONGO

In early 2018, I left for Congo to follow Yann Arthus-Bertrand on the set of his last movie “Woman”. This trip had as a goal to start a new series of videos for DJI: “DJI Masters”, Yann Arthus-Bertrand was the first episode. As a pioneer in aerial photography, he has spent decades traveling to the farthest corners of the world, documenting extraordinary people and places along the way. For “Woman”, Yann Arthus-Bertrand searched in several countries for unique women's testimonies, an opportunity for them to tell their story as well as a way to speak about what is it to be a woman in a society leading by men. Between all these interviews, he is going to present some aerial interludes. These moments will permit the documentary to breathe a bit and create a pause among some intense women's stories. For that, he wanted to be closer to the human being so he didn’t use helicopters, as he used to do, but drones. Here in Congo, he came to shoot an all-female drum ensemble. For my first project as a director for DJI, we went over there without knowing what exactly we were going to film. Yann Arthus-Bertrand doesn’t schedule his shooting and prefers to let some space to the unexpected. Therefore we were quite nervous not to have enough material for the documentary. We couldn’t be more wrong, at the end of the day, the footage looked incredible.
