First Story

“The tragedy of the man without a name” is my cinema school graduation project. Every student director had to make a 15 min short movie to finalize their studies. The members of the crew were composed of students from other specialty classes (image, sound, production, editing.). It’s always painful to come back to your first film. The narrative changed a lot from what I wanted to do at the beginning. The screenplay was a really challenging moment for me, it was impossible to find a good story, I had to make it shorter to finish the final script in time and start the production of the shooting. Since then, that’s one of the aspects I try to improve myself. The film noir genre was always an obsession for me, I love the aesthetic and the theme of these movies, strong light contrast, Dutch angle, a disillusioned character looking for redemption… I guess I tried, a bit clumsily, to mix all that with some fantasy. I had fun on the shooting though and in hindsight; even if I have some hard time to watch it again it was a good learning experience.
