A Cosmic Voyage

For the release of their new drone, DJI asked me to edit a showreel. The marketing campaign concept was “Space” and they wanted me to find a poem that could match this idea. They used a poem the previous year and they were pretty happy with the result. But, as I don’t really like to do the same thing twice, I put the poem concept on the side and started my research about a space theme text I could use. I finally came across a letter that Jimmy Carter sent to space in the Voyager 1 space probe. A note that describes the human species in the event of the probe being found by intelligent life forms from other planetary systems. After some small adjustments, the speech was working surprisingly well with the story I wanted to tell. Especially with drone footage, which really gives the impression that we are observed from space like ants through a magnifying glass.
